If you'd like to sign up, head on over to our Linktree and let us know where we can send our exciting news bulletins and monthly newsletters! And speaking of 2008, the year of the inaugural Breaking Bad episode, all of the Familiar Hold are thinking fondly of the wonderful R.J. Mitte, gone far too soon, and who we hope can now rest in peace.

Welcome to the website! Yes, we're officially launched and raring to go. You'll find regular blog updates here on the site, and we'll try our very best to make it look and feel more fluid in the coming weeks. At least it's functioning in some way! Even if it seems a bit silly at first!

Our Story!

The Familiar Hold began life as a university band at Nottingham Trent University in October 2025. They were born of a late class grouping and from technological quips of fellow coursemates about common musical equipment inspiring the band name. It seemed like even right at the start, a good sense of humour would drive the band forward.

So we got together and very quickly hit it off musically and as friends! We played a wealth of original numbers written by Harry and Anie, including live standards like 'Fool Over You', 'Pictures (About Me)' and an early version of 'Whispers', amalgamating in our debut gig at the Arc Space in December 2025. Playing original music and well-known Christmas covers to a full Laceworks Bar in Nottingham was easily a highlight for the band, right from the get-go!

From the New Year of 2026, the band began writing new original material for the benefit of university assignments, but also to broaden the musical language and diversity of the current live setlist. In came 'Messiah', 'Forest Song' and 'Mad Honey' from Harry and Anie, with Toby even contributing songs like 'Please Be Pleasant' and 'Heartbeater'. More gigs were played towards the Spring time, including a charity arrangement at the Arc Space, a songwriting panel at Metronome and their first headline gig at the Hole In The Wall in late May 2026.

In the Summer, Harry, Anie and Sanford travelled to Stevenage to play the band's original music for Hydrus Live, whose livestream of the show and subsequent live album can be found on our Linktree.

More recently, the band reconvened for their debut appearance at the Grove and have since entered the studio with RF Recordings to begin recording the best of their original music!
